For the past 30 years, I have lived in Mayport, Florida, a historic fishing village located where the St. Johns River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Mayport remains a tightly knit community whose residents are deeply connected through family ties, shared traditions, and a strong sense of place. I live there with my husband, a fisherman whose daily catch continues to inspire my work.
Having grown up in Florida, I came to appreciate the state's distinctive landscape. Over time, I came to understand why I am drawn to the vivid natural palette of Florida. The bright blues of the water and the lush greens of the foliage that appear in my pottery are rooted in the environment that surrounds me.
My goal is to make functional pottery that is both useful and visually engaging. Using silkscreen techniques, I incorporate familiar local imagery building layers of imagery. Through these layered surfaces, I seek to capture the history, character, and visual richness of the community I call home.
